There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, where casino betting is illegal. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that highlights many conveniences in addition to the gambling den, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 tables.
