There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not permitted. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that features a number of luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight tables.
